Save Time with Online CRNA Programs

For nurses who are trying to decide what direction to take their careers, choosing to attend an online CRNA program may be the wisest choice they'll ever make. Very few careers in the nursing industry are as lucrative, and provide pay rates as competitive as that of a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). Amazingly, many people do not know that CRNAs earn a yearly average of $120k-$150k. With such a high average salary, the requirements are very demanding and there are many prerequisites that must be completed before a person should begin to even consider becoming a CRNA.

Although anesthesia was once viewed as possibly being dangerous to the patient, its use has become very common in almost every surgery being conducted today. The job of administering anesthesia is strictly carried by a nurse and those who have completed online CRNA programs are present in nearly every hospital surgery room in America.

It takes a considerable amount of time to become a CRNA. Even if you attend one of the accelerated online CRNA programs, it will still require a substantial time investment. Beginning as an LPN or RN, a nurse can continue to complete their specific education requirements and other certifications. After gaining substantial experience in the nursing industry and learning about specialized positions, the option of enrolling into one of the online CRNA programs should be considered. The CRNA certification is one of the most coveted and pursued in the nursing industry.

When considering whether or not to attend an online CRNA program, potential students need to already be a RN and also have already earned a bachelor's degree - while maintaining a 3.0 GPA during their undergrad schooling. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is the primary entrance exam used by all schools who offer online CRNA programs. There is also a final requirement which states that students have also worked for at least one year within an intensive care unit (ICU) before they are even allowed to apply. Of course there are exceptions to these requirements and sometimes administrators will allow students to enter online CRNA programs without all of the prerequisites however cases such as this are very rare.

In an operating room, the CRNA is nearly as important as the surgeon himself. Without qualified CRNAs, many patients would have horrible experiences, and many surgeries might not be possible at all. Although the prerequisites are quite substantial and may even seem intimidating, the rewards are well worth the effort.
